What is your role at SmallBiz?
I am the founder.
What are your expertise?
Tax and Xero, which a great piece of software designed to make our client’s finances easy to manage.
What’s your best piece of advice for a hygienist/dentist looking to get their finances in order?
Have a dedicated bank account for your dental activities, separate from your personal finances. It makes it so much easier to prepare accounts if this is done. Rather than wading through pages of personal transactions we can just focus on the business only income and expenses and prepare the accounts quicker.
Do you have any predictions on changes in the world of finance and accounting in 2020?
I hate to say the B-word. But, I do believe that Brexit and majority Conservative government will lead to both lower and higher taxes. For example, Income Tax cuts are being proposed to be offset National Insurance rises.
When you’re not providing financial advice, what else do you enjoy doing?
My number one thing in the world is to be outside. Living in Devon I am spoilt with a stunning coastline and countryside. I have committed to walking the 630 mile South West Coast path with my partner Sally. This year we hope to have the North and South Devon section completed.
